Major Illness / Long-Term Care / Disability Checklist
PRE-ONSET:
1. Take charge of your health care coverage by ensuring you have continued adequate protection at an affordable cost.
2. Secure your Social Security earnings records to confirm your eligibility and the amount of disability benefits you can expect.
3. Accurately assess the potential impact on your family's income and expenses.
4. If you anticipate insufficient ongoing income, consider purchasing disability income insurance to safeguard your financial future.
5. Evaluate the necessity of long-term care insurance to protect against future needs - for yourself, your spouse, your parents, grandparents, and in-laws. Who would bear the responsibility to provide for a major illness - long-term care situation, in your family?

POST-ONSET:
1. Proactively assess your home for necessary modifications to ensure it's accessible.
2. If full-time assistance is required, arrange for separate living quarters for caregivers or explore high-quality assisted living facilities.
3. If you need part-time assistance, confidently arrange for a visiting nurse or other reliable home health care services.
4. Review your life insurance policy obligations and determine if a waiver of premium or other policy provisions will be beneficial.
5. Take control of your financial situation by reassessing your household budget and eliminating any unnecessary expenses.
